That’s a wrap folks
Tuesday, August 2, 2011The 2011 Jubilee has officially been put to bed. By Monday morning most of the visible signs of the event had already been cleared from the grounds. But the weekend will live on in the collective memory of the thousands of music lovers that came out. The theme was "Rockin' the River" and that we did. The line-up itself was deep and wide: 54-40, The Trews, Big Sugar, Matt Mays, The Stanfields, Hey Rosetta!, Dave Gunning, Carmen Townsend, Platinum Blonde, David Myles, Christina Martin, Alert the Medic, Three Sheet, Universal Soul, Grooveback, Jim Dorie, Dolores Dagenais, Fleur Mainville, Always Distracted, Ghostrider & The Allied Horns...and that was just the main stage.
The vibe was great and the performances were, quite simply, some of the finest we've seen. From an organizational perspective, the event ran smoothly and people were able to enjoy themselves safely.
From the outset we knew we would have some challenges ahead of us this year. In 2010, we celebrated our 15th anniversary by bringing one of the biggest names in Canadian music to New Glasgow, Blue Rodeo. We had raised the bar and knew that we had to follow that up with something equally compelling if we wanted to keep our audience interested. Then it was announced that one of the biggest names in music anywhere in the world would be coming to Moncton and our community festival would have to compete directly with the likes of U2 just 2 hours from our venue. And, since ours is an outdoor event, Mother Nature always looms large as a factor in our success.
The Board is exceedingly pleased with the line-up the 2011 Jubilee was able to offer. We delivered 3 nights of stellar local, regional and national talent at an affordable price. In short, we put on a great show and demonstrated that small communities can deliver big music experiences.
Attendance for the weekend, while solid, was less than anticipated driven mainly by poor weather conditions on Saturday and the draw of concert goers to Moncton to attend the U2 concert. We will be working hard in the coming weeks to close the books on the 2011 event and begin planning for another successful event in 2012.
The Board of Director's of the New Glasgow Jubilee would like to thank everyone involved, from the sponsors and volunteers to the top notch production and operations crews, and especially thank you to the fans who came out and supported live music in Pictou County. It takes a year of planning and hard work by a volunteer Board of Directors to put on the Jubilee every year, but there is no doubt that when the event rolls around and we see people flock into the Jubilee grounds and stand shoulder to shoulder and sing at the top of their lungs along with the bands it is worth every single minute!
